为什么会有圣诞节
每年十二月二十五日是基督徒们普天同庆的日子──圣诞节，全世界的基督徒都在这一天纪念耶稣基督降生。圣诞节的英文是Christmas，意思是Mass of Christ，即是“耶稣基督弥撒”的意思。
根据圣经记载圣母玛利亚是因圣神的感动而怀孕，与丈夫约瑟返回家乡时，路经犹太小城伯利恒的晚上，所有旅店客满，因此玛利亚被迫在马槽里产下耶稣。
耶稣出生的剎那，来自在遥远东方的三位博士追随着天上的一颗明星，找到耶稣，并膜拜祂。牧羊人在旷野中也听到天使的歌唱，知道耶稣降生的佳音。
其实，耶稣的真正诞生日已经不可考究。为了纪念耶稣的诞生，每年的十二月二十五日就定为圣诞节。到了十九世纪，开始出现圣诞卡和圣诞老人，圣诞节才在世界各地流行起来。今天的圣诞节已成为普天欢庆的日子，庆祝的人都不分男女老幼，种族国籍。
为什么会有圣诞老人
相传在1600多年前，荷兰有一位老人名叫尼古拉斯，他最喜欢帮助贫穷人家。有一户人家快要嫁女了，可是父母太穷，没有钱为三个女儿办嫁妆，好心的尼古拉斯知道后就决定帮助他们。在一个宁静的晚上，尼古拉斯把一袋金子从窗户扔进他们家里，金子恰好掉进挂在壁炉边的长袜中。于是，将礼物放在圣诞袜子内的送礼方法便流传至今。
后来荷兰传教士把这位伟大慈善家的故事传到美国，扮圣诞老人渐渐地流行于世界各国。在平安夜当晚，孩子会把一只只色彩缤纷的袜子挂在床头，然后在袜子旁边放杯热牛奶，让劳苦功高的圣诞老人解渴，以获得自己心爱的礼物。
